One thing I am seeing a lot of are masks with valves on them. This can make it easier for people to exhale, but it obviates some of the purpose of the mask to trap your own respiratory secretions. I think most of them are manufactured that way because it makes them seem more premium to an unknowledgeable consumer. 

I don't think any random person on the street should be using an n95, but the 3m 1860 or the home depot style masks are probably the easiest for someone without training to use. Then again, if you haven't been fit tested, it isn't clear they would provide any more protection than a standard mask.
