What's happening in Southern California?

Deaths and infections in Southern California continue to grow despite completing our 5th week of shutdown.  Over half of California's deaths and cases are in LA County (it makes up 25% of the state's population), California's highest death rate per 100K is LA county, and LA's death rate continues to climb long after the Bay Area death rate has stabilized.

What are we at now, 10th or 11th week?   11th verse, same as the first.

Over the past two weeks, Los Angeles County has recorded 17,590 new cases, failing one of the governor’s performance metrics. In that time, 522 deaths have been reported.

Over the past week, the county has averaged 1,356 new cases and 41.1 new deaths per day. The number of confirmed infections is currently doubling every 27.2 days.

One metric is whether counties have kept the number of new cases reported over the last 14 days to less than 25 per 100,000 residents.
Los Angeles County currently fails that test. Over the last two weeks, officials have confirmed 17,590 new cases, which amounts to 174.2 per 100,000.

Wow, doubling every month.  Why, in a year, that's an increase of over 4,000x.  If it could be sustained that long, that would amount to 2/3 of the population of the US having COVID-19 in Los Angeles County alone,  by the end of May 2021.

Orange County is just as exponential, just smaller.

The number of confirmed infections is currently doubling every 27 days.
One metric is whether counties have kept the number of new cases reported over the last 14 days to less than 25 per 100,000 residents.

Orange County currently fails that test. Over the last two weeks, officials have confirmed 2,074 new cases, which amounts to 65.5 per 100,000.

I have a next door neighbor in Santa Clara County, who is having his 2nd multi-family gathering within the last week.  Is that what's going on in L.A.?
