I think it is clear that COVID-19 can be transmitted via aerosols; the question is how substantial is that form of transmission. If it is a substantial contributor, then masks (other than N95) won't make a brobdingnagian difference; if it is only transmitted via aerosols under certain circumstances, then it's ok if the mask isn't perfectly fit.
