Just because people like to say it, doesn't mean it's true. I agree that the odds seem to grow longer by the day, but there remain tremendous financial incentives for many to play some games.
The Sun Belt, of all conferences, apparently is eager to be a canary in the coal mine and yesterday announced they plan to have league games on Labor Day weekend. I definitely could see the Power 5 leaders hopeful for a season waiting to see how those games fare before giving up on the idea of big-time football this fall.

I could see maybe a couple of games played at the beginning of the year as people try to force a season to happen. But when teams have to quarantine for 14 days and miss out on two games it's going to become apparent that it is a futile effort. Maybe they'll declare the team that won both of their games the league champ over the one who went 3-1 based on win percentage.
