China sucks and deserves scorn for not containing the virus, but the fact is it has only less than 85,000 reported infections and less than 5,000 total reported deaths. And yes, wild animal markets should be banned. But so too should the ivory trade and shark fin soup.

The United States and its citizens deserve scorn for not adequately protecting its citizens, with 5,000,000 reported infections and over 160,000 reported deaths.

Both countries are terrible in their own rights.

I agree 100% that the US should be doing better in overall numbers AND that a brobdingnagian part of that dysfunction lands on Trump, for his feckless, clueless, pointless "response."

Where I get off the train is that it is ALL Trump's fault or even an overwhelming majority.  (But even giving him 50% of the blame should suffice for November purposes, imo, anyway).  The track and trace efforts have been a joke; and there is no principled policy coming out of either Sacramento or Santa Clara County (which impacts my life more - indeed, state and county decisions impact the US population day-to-day far more than does federal action).  

So yes, Trump is first in the blame line (even before China - which is a bad actor on the world stage, so get used to it) and completely failed when it comes to setting the tone and getting the citizenry's "head right" about the gravity of the situation.  (And I think beyond tone, the feds could have helped ensure the $$ needed for decent test and trace at local levels).  But test and trace is at bottom a local matter, and that, too, has been an utter fail.
