"We didn't think the health officials would let us (play/attend/cheer) if it was not safe"

I think we underestimate how much of this happens.  A lot of people aren’t looking at this pandemic trying to figure out how many angels can dance on the head of a pin the way we do, and take the advice of officials at face value, and believe that if things are opening up, it’s categorically “safe”.
