I believe that is correct. If I am reading the articles correctly, so far as anyone knows, he didn't get it from a teammate, and he didn't drop dead because he was playing football. All it tells us is that 20-year old football players are not invincible against this thing, even if the vast majority will be minimally impacted.

So he is a young man that tragically died from Covid. He happens to play football. But the article is about how it’s “College Footballs” biggest nightmare.
From what you are saying BC, this was a young man that happened to play football who picked up the virus somewhere. And no other teammate etc got infected. Making the NYT article essentially propaganda. Unless the article points out that there is no known connection.
