We live in an Idiocracy.  Is there any reason the candidates must be on a stage together? 

Of course there is no bigger idiot than the VPOTUS.  The POTUS is in the hospital in serious condition. As the next in-line the VPOTUS should be in Washington ready to take over if need be, not flying around the country doing campaign events. Not to mention, he should be quarantining anyway due to his contacts at the super spread event at Rose Garden.

And, even if he hasn't taken over for POTUS, he should have addressed the nation to assure everyone the government will function no matter what happens, and lay out the chains succession in a calm and measured way. Just another log thrown on the conflagration of incompetence by the current White House management.

Why on earth would Pence go on TV?  Trumps not incapacitated.  The 25th, to my knowledge, has not been invoked.  (Which is the only way he “takes over”) Doing what you suggest would have indicated panic.  No matter what he said. Talking about them chain of succession would have been the exactly the wrong thing to do.  And no VP wants to look like he’s hoping for the job.  Pence addressing the nation would have have been idiotic.

As for campaigning- the election is a month away. He has to campaign. Those traveling with him knowthe score – if they’re concerned they can resign. They’re not gonna push the election back of course. So as I said he’s got no choice.
