If there are enough bowl games, ANY team could go to a bowl game under the new rule. More big-brand teams, even if not very good (think Tennessee, Nebraska, Texas, FSU...), mean more TV eyeballs.
it looks like there are 40 bowl games this year (including the 3 CFP games), given the lack of body bag games the Power 5 conferences would have ~30-35 teams with 0.500 or better records, the Group of 5 would have ~30-35 teams with 0.500 or better records so if they kept the 0.500 rule they would probably be at least 10 teams short of filling the bowl games with teams with a 0.500 or better record.....
38 bowl games plus the National championship game. Bahamas, Redbox and Hawaii cancelled. 76 teams.
