If I'm reading the rules on extra-eligibility (and I very well may be misinterpreting), everyone who is on the Stanford roster in 2020-21 will get an extra season of eligibility, but additional scholarships are only given for one year (the 2021-22 season). That could make for some interesting recruiting cycles.

Rice, Gardiner, and Betts would be a fantastic class!

That is correct.  It means that all the current juniors will be redshirt juniors next year and redshirt seniors in the 2022-23 season.  So, conceivably we could just bring everyone back (if they wanted to come back), or some of them would have to be given the chance to enter the transfer portal in order to stay within the scholarship limit.  Given the prospect of taking in 3 top 10 prospects, there may be some difficult decisions ahead.
