i could be wrong, but it was my impression that charisma osborne did not lack interest or academics; rather, with fran belibi, ashten prechtel, and (hopefully) haley jones in the class, we did not have room for both hannah jump and charisma. we chose hannah over charisma. the decision disappointed me, for one. no disrespect to hannah, who is a fine player, but charisma was the more celebrated of the 2 and seemed to me the more promising.
I think Osborne might be the better overall basketball player but I think Jump was the right choice for Stanford. One of the things Stanford does really well is get three-point shooters good open shots. For that strategy to pay off, you need good three-point shooters to take the shot. Think of all the plays we ran to get Karlie Samuelson an open three during her senior year. Jump is that great three-point shooter we need in our offense. She made 41% of her threes vs 33% for Osborne.
