My buddy in Beijing reports that life is pretty much back to normal now. His kid is attending school in person and people are back to work. He wears a mask if he's going into a store or a movie theatre, but that's about it. He says that when walking on the street, 30-40% of the people are wearing masks, but it's not a big deal either way because it's basically been contained.

When I told him that some people in the US don't want to wear masks because of freedom, he laughed and said, "I'd rather have my life. I'll trade a few months of freedom to get my life back!"

But sure, tout American Exceptionalism, if that makes you feel better.
