What fraction of Americans are considered "celebrities".  Interestingly someone tried to figure that out, defining "famous" as someone who has their own wikipedia page:

Using only the total English-speaking population of the world (approximately 1.49 billion), the fraction is 0.00041. So the fraction of famous people, using this rough approximation is somewhere between about 1 in 10,000 and 5 in 10,000 (or 1 in 2,000).

Given that that 240,000 Americans have died of COVID-19, it follows that we would expect between 24 and 120 "famous" people to have died.

Those 842 had Wikipedia pages.   (Some were only famous as a result of COVID-19).
Counting by place of death (21 have no death place listed), the US had 172.

Darn, there goes the idea that you can reduce your chance of dying by COVID-19 by becoming famous.
