Counterargument: You have to live long enough to accomplish something to make you famous, so, on average, famous people will be older than the overall population.

I disagree.  I think most of the entertainment industry celebrities are probably famous by the time they are 1/3 of the average life span.
That's true of sports figures (if you don't already consider that entertainment) as well.
Political, industrial, military, medical leaders are going to be older.
Criminals are a mixed bag.
Authors probably are older for the most part.
Tech celebrities are usually younger when they become famous.

I also think most active celebrities are dependent on interaction with others, and so are more likely to be exposed to an infectious disease than somebody working with the same group of people day after day.

Yes, but even if you become famous early in life, you remain famous the rest of your life.
