I didn't like the Punt from 39, but could justify it since it was 4th and 6. I would have gone for it because that's what winners do.

Winners win the game.   Shaw won the game.   Therefore he did what at least some winners might do because he was the winner.

The team doesn't get that 4th down and then the doom and gloom crowd would complain about the play calling.   Cal would be amped up, and the final 10 minutes takes a different vibe.

The winners win The AXE.  Shaw and crew have that thing, so that's all we need for today. 
  
I would like to submit that we can resume the grumbling about what Shaw could do in game situations or with different staff tomorrow.  

This is a bit like ESPN where seconds after a team wins a title, the crew jumps in and talks about odds for NEXT year often with the players on that team while they are still on the field or court.
