Not dumb at all. It was 4th and 11. Not 4th and 3. I dont trust Toner at 51. And the odds of Stanford picking up the first were , I’d wager about 10%. Plus this was not a high scoring back and forth affair. I wonder of those who commented how many actually saw the game.
It also worked. Stanford gave up one first, got the ball in good field position.
If you want to blast a call, it was the 3d and 3 around the 32 when Mills got a sack. 4 down territory. Run on third. The punt on 4th after the sack was a no-brainer. Again, low chance of success. You don’t give your opponent the ball at the 40 up 7 with 4:30 left.
