I think that's a good take from Silver.
The hypocrisy is bothersome, but the bigger problem is how it undermines support for restrictions, which is already tenuous. You can imagine someone who is generally willing to listen to officials but also also is feeling pressure from friends to go to a backyard get together, who concludes f- it, if these people don't give a flip, why should I.
