I was worried about this game. Was it the best the team could have played? Not close but they did what they had to do. Too many turnovers, most from trying a bit too hard to make drives happen, which is sorta how UCLA games tend to go for us. Rebounding was very good overall. We've had trouble with the Bruins on the boards in many recent games. Belibi was very good, which was great to see because it was against good posts with size. Jones had a good game despite not shooting that great. She was a rebounding machine, which she has to be if we play her at the 4, our point 4 as it were. As with Belibi, so it was with Brink, a very good showing against high quality bigs. I thought Lexie was pressing a bit, but she also was probably getting fouled with no call on some of those drives.
Hope Williams is ok. Did not look like a knee or an ankle, more like a hip pointer, which knock wood may be painful now, but should not keep her out long, and we have the long break.
All in all, nice win. Except for a brief 1 point lead, UCLA was behind all game. By 7 or 8 minutes to go, it felt like we had things under control.
