I don't think it was Shaw's choice to make. Rosen wanted to start as a freshman. In order to do that, he would have needed to enroll early. He couldn't do that at Stanford. End of story. On top of that, Shaw wasn't going to bench Senior Kevin Hogan for Freshman Josh Rosen no matter when Rosen got there. It was a total non-starter from Rosen's point of view.
