A few weeks prior to the 1939 World's Fair stunt, Sprinz and a teammate caught a ball dropped from the 400 foot "Tower of the Sun" pavilion.  The ball dropped from the dirigible traveled 800 feet and went through Sprinz's glove at 145 mph, hitting him full in the face.  Knocked out eight teeth, fractured his jaw, lacerations across his face.
