Was your son playing for Boeheim at the time? I lived in Syracuse, though left in 1998. A good friend and her husband were very, very close to Boeheim, and she constantly reminded me I had it wrong about Jim. Didn't matter that he dumped his wife of nearly 20 years for a woman 20 years younger. . . .

In more ways than just one. Never met Monty, but heard good things. Met Boeheim on multiple occasions, a world class jerk.
I played golf with JB in Phoenix when my son was at Syracuse (class of '01). Seemed like an OK guy. Can't say the same about Montgomery in my experience, however, on or off the course. I just know that a big difference is that one guy's teams played better in March than other guy's.
Free Phogge!!!! And no, crimson doesn't refer to the Tide.
