Yes, one can argue that kids should be participating for the fun of it (and the myriad of other benefits) as few will be going on to play at college. But couldn't the same be said of college athletes, as most won't be going pro or to the Olympics? But we know that's not the case, as being successful pays dividend. Kids should play to win. Or at least they used to before orange slices, participation trophies and not keeping score became the rage.
