At least where I went to HS, anyone can play on the HS track team or cross country team, or even competitive sports like football would roster kids who never saw the field as long as they came to practice. I ran cross country even though I was slower than plenty of girls and only very rarely scored any points for the team. Even so it was a fun activity where I made friends and learned some valuable things.
The remedies being sought by Republican states, that would exclude trans athletes or force them to compete against members of a gender they don't identify with, I think are abhorrent, certainly not in the best interest of the athlete. Is winning in HS sports really that important?
