Your humble inside-the-ropes correspondent reporting...
There are many adjectives you could use to describe this team's performance after two rounds. I'm choosing dominating and statement-making. I think this team was really unhappy with its performance at Pac-12s just a couple weeks ago and was insulted by being seeded #5.
After two rounds Stanford holds an almost-insurmountable ***TWENTY-TWO SHOT LEAD***. It's current score of -25 is already lower than the record the team set just a month ago in Fresno at -24. And keep in mind they are doing this on a course where only 15 of 90+ players are under par. Even though it's their home course, this kind of performance is awe-inspiring.
Rachel Heck and teammate Angie Ye are tied for the lead at -7, with Brooke Seay (-6) and Sadie Eglemann (-5) close behind. Yes, that's two tied for 1st, one tied for 3rd, and one tied for 5th. Aline Krauter, who I think I will be walking with tomorrow, is at +2 which is still good enough for T29.
Meanwhile, the battles for the other five spots in the finals is going to likely come down to a stroke or two, especially the sixth and final spot. Wake Forest & Virginia Tech (-3), Oklahoma State (+1) and U$C (+3) are currently 2nd-5th and would likely have to falter significantly to not make the cut tomorrow. It's possible that will happen to at least one of them. Florida is in 6th at +9 with four teams with 5 shots of that final spot - Arizona, Pepperdine, Denver, and Northwestern.
Every team that is playing in this regional should be thankful it's not playing in the LSU Regional in Baton Rouge. The first two rounds have been rained out and even getting in 18 tomorrow is dicey right now. If tomorrow is washed out then the teams seeded 1-6 will advance without having played a single hole. That's just how it works in NCAA golf.
All for now. More updates tomorrow after the conclusion of play
