Unless Michigan and Virginia have been sandbagging every race, the odds of either of them winning the V8 are astronomically low. It's not convention to hold back a lot over the course of a championship regatta, although I think it would confer and advantage. Plus, the results of the V4 and 2V grand finals indicate that Michigan and Virginia don't have the team speed that usually indicates a fast varsity eight.
