The problem in my mind is that guys like Da Silva (four year players who improve over the course of their four years) are the exception and not the rule for Haase teams.

da Silva is a drastically different case than the others. He spent four years at Stanford, apparently not only graduated but took to the school side with gusto, improved his basketball game each and every year, and seemed to be a good citizen of the team. I don't how somebody like that deciding to move on, whether making the NBA or not, has any negative reflection on a coach at all.

While guys like da Silva are the exception and not the rule everywhere, there could be more substance to this second worry. There was clearly a bad team dynamic last year, and overall Haase's teams have not performed to the level it seems they could and should have. A college coach is responsible for everything about their team. The difficult thing to know from the outside is whether the benchings and current departures are a sign of Haase letting the situation get away from him or Haase manning up to take the bitter medicine necessary to take control of the situation.
