Probably just me. I went to Stanford pretty much sight unseen. I had been driven through the campus for about 10 minutes by an adult that had not been there before. The visit wasn't germane to my decision, that is for sure.
I think the visits are also about meeting the other players and coaches in person to see what they are like. I for one would be unlikely to do all virtual interviewing for a job and accept it without meeting some of the people face-to-face.
I also came to Stanford sight unseen (from Ohio), and the impression it made when I arrived was significantly better than the image I had in my mind
