I suggest they just add a + to the existing name. If it works for Disney, it should work for the P12. The PAC-12+. I kinda like it.....
Such a conference would encompass what has historically been referred to as "the west." (I always chuckle at the notion that Texas and Oklahoma are considered in the "west" and Ohio and Missouri are in the "mid-west" when on the map they are all in the middle of the USA.)
Our conference has strayed far from the Pacific ocean. With such a merger of conferences IMO the "Pac" should go away.
In naming this new conference, I would embrace the concept of the "West." While "Manifest Destiny Conference" would properly describe the territory of the members, I doubt this name would get much traction in the debate. I like the following:
AMERICAN WEST CONFERENCE (AWC)
US WEST CONFERENCE (USW)
USA WEST CONFERENCE (USAW) -- You saw it here first!
WILD WEST CONFERENCE (WWC)
