to recap, our AD has overseen our first recruiting blight/scandal, he consistently runs an overall program that operates in the red requiring endowment spend down and University subsidies, and his programs no longer win at sufficiently high levels to retain the Director's Cup.  and the upside of Bernie is his getting lucky to hire a good head coach for a program he recommended be discontinued?

I have to think, in the context of Stanford HR protocol, that Muir is at this moment "on a path" to a graceful and dignified exit. A $ayonara, as it were. Then, again, this situation could be stickier and more problematic.
