There are those for whom each vaccination is recommended against.
He openly said he would be remote at media day, and gave his reason as not having a vaccine. That seems sound.
He said his reason for not having the vaccine was private. He did not say that the CDC is trying to inject Martian technology into us; he did not try to convince others that they shouldn't get the vaccine. I respect that, and will give him the benefit of the doubt that his reason is rational.
I wish him luck in avoiding getting COVID, and being able to do his job.
A noble sentiment. I admire your empathy.
I didn't write the OP, but I will suggest that yes, Rolovich's reason is very likely to be stupid. I am not saying he's a stupid person, but I personally believe his reason is almost certainly stupid.
Since you cited a CDC article in defending medical reasons not to have the vaccination, to be clear, "CDC recommends everyone 12 years and older get vaccinated as soon as possible to help protect against COVID-19 and the related, potentially severe complications that can occur." Anaphylaxis as described in the source that you cited is exceedingly rare - 2 to 5 cases per million, per CDC. That is roughly the same as his odds of being struck by lightning in the next year. The article you cited also provides alternatives - if you're allergic to one ingredient, get J&J; if allergic to another, talk to your doctor about Pfizer or Moderna.
He can skip the media day, but it is simply not going to be possible to coach or participate in collegiate-level sports and all the associated flights, bus rides, locker room talks, and other interactions without dozens of exposures per day. He presumably needs to continue with daily testing like last season, but if he remains unvaccinated and contracts Covid or is involved in an outbreak within his team, too bad for him and too bad for Wazzu. No postponing, no rescheduling, no fallback tiebreaker scenarios, no whining.
