I'm afraid it's going to be Slater. He will come back in Sept. Of course, if pitchers keep dropping, who knows? Are the other Milwaukee pitchers as good as Burnes? And, Webb was great. I don't trust DeScalfini, so it's Gausman, Webb, Wood (always gives up 1 or 2 runs in 5 innings) and a questionable Sanchez?

Could very well be.  And he has been scuffling most recently.

As leadoff man in 10th (with runner at 2B), you have to advance the runner.  Slater Ked - and looked bad swinging at a low/outside pitch way out of the zone. BTW, last night, Crawford did a similar thing with Bryant at 2B and no outs in the 10th.  The difference was that Bryant hit a leadoff double to score the courtesy runner.  But still, Craw has to move him over - instead he struck out and Bryant didn't score.

I swear, the Giants do "the little things" poorly.  It's amazing they do the other stuff so well to keep them atop the NL West.  (And you have to love it that Giants L today is followed by a matching L from the Dodgers . . . and the Padres).

I'll be really disappointed if Slater gets sent down.  He had a breakout season last season (.282/.408/.506/.914) in limited action, but more to the point, he was weaker in the first three months -- bad April/March (.227/.318/.360/.678), improved May (.229/.327/.542/.869), disastrous June (.111/.158/.111/.269, but fewest monthly at bats)...but he rebounded strongly in July (.320/.358/.500/.858).  He's the fastest player on the team (17 stolen bases in 20 attempts last two years) and an excellent outfielder.  And his lines against the Dodgers (.393/.433/.679/1.112) and the Padres (.390/.381/.850/1.231) are his top two against opponents.  I'd keep him.

Watched the Dodgers/Angels on MLB Net. Great game. Many dugout shots including future HOFers Kershaw and Scherzer conferring. They have an All Star team: Seager, Betts, Taylor, Muncy, Bellinger, Buehler, two Turners yada, yada, yada and still they are four games out.

The Giants are 8-8 against the all-stars-in-blue.  Runs scored/runs against are even at 68-68.  Giants are 5-4 against the Padres, but just 31-33 runs scored/runs against.
