We are NEVER going to be any of those schools for any substantive length of time (decade or more). That is not the bar.

Shaw is a victim of his own success, and the program has steadily declined since the roster lost its last Harbaugh recruits. College football has bypassed David Shaw, and he refuses to evolve to meet it. Sadly, we have a spineless AD who won't tell Shaw to either evolve or exit, but that's what is needed.

Yes, and evolution would require Shaw to overhaul his coaching staff and hire some dynamic, uncomfortable coaches who challenge him and push him to make necessary changes.  Excellent leaders surround themselves with bright minds that challenge the status quo, are aiming higher and are not content with mediocrity.  Shaw appears not to be that kind of leader, and therein lies the problem.
