I think it's telling that Lepolo didn't publicly commit until after Rice took her official visit. To me the coaching staff was waiting for a response from Rice and after talking to her on her visit maybe she told them she was going somewhere else which then gave Lepolo the opportunity to have a scholarship. 

Now, this is pure speculation and may be way out of the realm of possibility (and might not make sense) but it is what came to mind first.

the timing could imply the converse: lepolo knows stanford has 2 or 3 slots remaining (not clear if jenna will return). suppose lepolo sees kiki is visiting, posting photos of having fun with walter rouse. she figures kiki is likely to to use one of those slots. lepolo might well decide she better commit quickly before the remaining slot(s) is/are filled.
