In 1926 we went undefeated and tied Alabama (!) in the 1927 Rose Bowl. We were undefeated and rated #2 in 1940. #4 in 2010 and #3 in 2015. We probably have the most H award runner-ups in at least the last 20 years.
Conventional cards seem to be stacked against us. Well, what if we decided to go rogue and exit the Pac 12? What if we decided to schedule teams from schools that are “intellectual” and/or regional equals? For example: USC (natch), Notre Dame, Kal, San Jose State, Fresno State, San Diego State, Northwestern, Wake Forest, Duke, Vanderbilt, BYU, Harvard or Yale. How about a game with the Toledo Rockets? Perhaps fans would be intrigued. Obviously, we'd have to relinquish our Rose Bowl ambitions.
I’m not privy to all the financial/contractual nuances of our involvement with the Pac 12. I just think this might be an alternate reality that should be explored.
