I think Franklin *was* mentioned.
The corrosive effect of racism (and other forms of discrimination) is not that they always happen, but that victims of prejudice are always left to wonder whether something that happened (like being a successful head coach being asked if they were interested in a second rate college program) was ordinary douchebaggery or “racially tinged” douchebaggery. Not knowing Palmer, I have no idea if he was thinking “who is the biggest name head coach in the NFL not named Bill Belichek” and settled on Tomlin, or if he was thinking “who is the biggest name *Black* head coach in the NFL.” Tomlin probably doesn’t know either, but having been underestimated and underrecognized one too many times because he was Black, I have to wonder if that was a factor.
Of course, I just may be imagining things, and Tomlin may well have no patience for douchebaggery, racially tinged or not. In fact, Tomlin doesn’t strike me as someone with patience for that kind of crap, regardless.
