One of the many things that makes USC so loathsome is its air of superiority or maybe just entitlement.  



Yesterday - the only USC QB who has ever amounted to anything in the NFL, despite so much praise being heaped on them all in college - Carson Palmer, said he's involved in the USC head coach search and told Dan Patrick Pittsburgh Steelers Head Coach Mike Tomlin was a candidate.



I immediately thought it to be absurd. Today, Tomlin called it a joke and actually seemed offended that other NFL coaches like Sean Payton and Andy Reid aren't asked about being a college coach. Putting it all together, the reason Palmer mentioned Tomlin is because it makes the USC job - that apparently few of their top candidates want - more attractive. "Oh, they must be big time if the likes of Mike Tomlin are interested."  Bleh. Nothing is more phony than all things USC. I just hope this little ploy to make themselves seem like the biggest deal in college football - when they aren't - comes off as the joke it is, for the same reasons, to people beyond myself.

Always wondered that.  After Palmer, Rodney Peete is arguably the most successful USC quarterback in the NFL.  They've had 21 quarterbacks drafted, Carson started for 12 years, Peete for 7, none other for more than six.  Notable first or second round flameouts include Marinovich, Beathard, Darnold, Sanchez, Bukich and Leinart.



Stanford's 23 NFL-drafted QBs include multiple Super Bowl winners (Elway, Plunkett), NFL MVPs (Brodie), All-Pros (Albert, Luck, Boryla), other starters and long term backup (Dils)

Elway was an NFL MVP (in 1987) a SuperBowl MVP, a three-time second team all-Pro, and a nine-time Pro Bowler.  Also, Walter Payton Man of the Year, and part of the 1990's all-Decade team and 100th Anniversary All-Time Team.  He is enshrined in the NFL Hall of Fame.  I think labeling him as a Super Bowl winner kind of under-sells it, doesn't it?
