Since this is a Stanford message board, when posters defend Shaw based on his early coaching accomplishments I just assume they are “book smart” and not “sport smart”.

You guys almost sound giddy we lost.  You’d rather be right about Shaw than see us win.

I would be "giddy" if Shaw had enough self-knowledge to see that he is not the guy to rebuild the program at the university he professes to love, and makes way for a fresh, bottoms-up restart with dignity and grace. Instead, he adjusts his blinders, grits his teeth and grinds away at the same thing(s), faithful that his ship is bound to come in. I'm a person of hope, not faith. Hope never disappoints. Faith? I like this definition: It is the belief in something--anything--in the utter absence of any supporting evidence.
