Was Stanford a "power running" team during the Elway years?  in 1999-200?  No.  But they were good, balanced offenses.  

Which Elway, Jack or John? If you meant John, no, they weren't good balanced offenses. They were neither good nor balanced. If you meant Jack, they had one winning season. A guy by the name of Brad Muster had a lot to do with that one winning season. They did tend towards power running, although more like Toby and Andrew Luck did.

I agree that Stanford can do well without playing phone booth football, but we shouldn't conflate that with the Germans bombing Pearl Harbor.
