I have yet to hear a real reason why anyone would think that's possible, let alone likely.

Not sure about likelihood but this year's recruiting class is a significant cut above recent ones. That doesn't answer all the issues but it seems like a basis for optimism. Also...your bete noir, the "dull, unimaginative offense" is far down the list of reasons for empty seats in the stadium.
