Not surprisingly IMHO many people who might be tempted to buy a ticket most years won't do so this year. Casual fans may not know that if McKee is back it could be a pretty good game. All they know is that Stanford has lost a bunch of games and looked bad doing it. So why watch? I don't think the "butts in the seats" matter much to the AD in terms of $, but it does in terms of image. That is why the ticket giveaway. If it had any hope of working it would be one thing. It doesn't. In our neighborhood there are several sets of free good seats being given away. Few takers.
