But as long as we're on the subject, consider this. Sixty years ago this week, 1961, it was raining like hell in the Bay Area. Long before the invention of "atmospheric rivers". They were quaintly known as "rainstorms" in those days. OK, want to know Big Game attendance? 79,000. Yup, that's what it was. To see two teams that totaled four wins combined. And that was 79,000 butts in the seats at Stanford Stadium. There were 82,000 tickets sold. Stanford won, 20-7, finishing the season 4-6. The win broke the then-Indians conference losing streak of 10 games. Weenies finished 1-8-1. But it still drew 79,000 fans in an afternoon downpour. The old days. We've come a long way. Down.
The days of season ticket holders on both sides receiving a ticket as part of their season ticket package regardless of venue are long gone. Also long gone are the days of 88,000 in Stanford Stadium and 76,500 at Memorial Stadium regardless of the number of wins and losses posted by either team.
