79,000 at the '61 big game? Sure. When I grew up in the 60's, we got home from school and tuned the VHF knob until we got a test pattern, then we'd wait patiently until 4pm when the locally-produced, low/no-budget kids shows would come on for an hour before local news at 5. (Anyone remember Captain Satallite on KTVU). By 9 or 10 they played the national anthem and went back to the test pattern. No VCR/DVR, so if you missed it, you missed it. No Netflix or HBO or movie channels. No rent-at-home movies. No internet. No youtube. No Great America; Disneyland was a once-in-a-lifetime trip, and Frontier Village was once per summer if you were lucky. Lawrence Welk was the entertainment highlight of the week. No video games. Phone calls were expensive. Car trips we an adventure every time. Air travel was for the rich. No words with friends. Lucky to get one or two NFL games on Sunday and one or two college games on Saturday, in black and white. Jobs were contained to job time. Boys played little league a few weeks a summer. No soccer moms. No Volleyball leagues. Restaurants were for special occasions and there was no grub hub. Most houses were tiny.
So, sure, a local game between two bad teams was still a draw back then. Ask me how I know. ;)

Those flights: Men in coats and ties, ladies in hats and heels. Just like vintage Big Games.
