Notes on the 2022 Stanford Football Personnel grid:
1. I decided on one grid this season, namely one that lists players by class year and not one that lists players by eligibility. Last year I did both. In previous years, I just had the eligibility grid. However, with the eligibility from 2020 wiped out, it makes that grid a bit unwieldy at the present time; I think the class-year grid looks cleaner. Let me know if the eligibility grid would be more useful and I would be happy to construct one of those as well.
2. To the 2021 Stanford Football Personnel grid, I have added 28 players.
a. The 27-person incoming “CardClass22”
b. Scotty Edwards, a safety who signed two years ago, but deferred entry to do his church mission
c. If we have more additions, especially as we approach the February official signing day, I will add them as well.
3. From the 2021 Stanford Football Personnel grid, I have removed 23 players. I have denotated players who regularly started in bold.
a. Three sixth-year players who have exhausted their eligibility
==> OLB Jordan Fox, QB Isaiah Sanders, RB Dorian Maddox
b. Ten players who are seeking a transfer. These players can elect to remove themselves from the transfer portal at any time; I will cross out those names of players electing to do so and return to Stanford for a fifth or sixth year. Schools to which these players transfer will be added parenthetically after their names once they find a new football home.
1) Four fifth-year players
==> OLB Gabe Reid (Utah), FB Houston Heimuli (BYU), DE Ryan Johnson (Northwestern), OLB Thunder Justice Keck
2) Two senior scholarship players
==> OLB Andres Fox (Virginia), OLB Loa Kaufusi (retired from football; now getting MBA at BYU); senior RB Justus Woods (retired from football; now at Bain) is also in the transfer portal, though he left the team back in September
3) Two senior walk-ons
==> LS Kyle Petrucci (Utah), DE Trey LaBounty (Miami (OH))
4) Two juniors
==> RB Nathaniel Peat (Missouri), RB Austin Jones (USC); junior Joshua Pakola (Fresno State) is also in the transfer portal - as he was in early 2021, before removing his name - though he was not on the team in 2021 for some unknown (to me) reason
c. Three senior walk-ons graduating (with eligibility remaining) [note: these are my projections only; should they want to continue playing and if they were invited back, any of these players could return for a fifth year, though it would be on their own dime]

d. Three scholarship players declaring for the NFL draft (with eligibility remaining); NFL draft status and teams will be added parenthetically after their names once they are drafted or signed as undrafted free agents

4. The grid is fluid. Some of the players I have projected to graduate from the team could return, and some of those in the transfer portal could return. In addition, because there are more than 85 scholarship players on the grid at present, additional scholarship players must leave the roster, either as graduates, transfers, retirements, or draft declarations. I will update the grid as decisions are made.
5. When a player is rostered at two positions, I have listed them according to the position named on the front side of the slash. For instance, if a player is rostered as offensive tackle/guard, I have listed them as a tackle. The only exception to this is the Devery Hamilton Rule, according to which, if a player ends up getting more playing time at the position named at the backside of the slash, they are considered rostered at that position; e.g., if a tackle/guard ends up playing guard, I switch them to guard in the grid.
6. I have removed all injury designations, though I realize that some players are still injured. This is a projection for the fall, when I am hoping we will have a healthy roster. I have kept other positional responsibility designations when the player is returning.
7. You will note that I have projected starters marked for some positions, but not others. I have only marked starters at positions where I think we are reasonably sure who the starters will be. I am happy to designate starter status to players if and when it seems we are reasonably sure who the starter will be, e.g., it is announced by coaches, a possible starter transfers leaving an obvious candidate, an injury or poor spring performance removes a player from consideration, etc.
