I used #8c1515 for the logo and the board.

Strange, I guess it's an optical illusion that the logo looks like a lighter shade to me.

Same here. It doesn't seem as dark as the red on the border of the messages.

Part of it at least is that the logo has blurred edges, presumably caused by compression (though I see it's a png, not jpeg), and/or anti-aliasing from resizing. So along the edges a little white is blended into the red. The other red elements on the site have sharp edges with little or no anti-aliasing.
