I will not speculate about when or how COVID protocols (apparently) had so many players unable to travel. I just hope that they are feeling well and will be back soon. Not ideal even missing practice for a week or so, but I hope that is all it turns out to be.
Nice win. WSU is not really very good. Overall they are not fast, and if you slow down the Leger-Walker sisters, ball game. The key to the game might have been that we did not turn the ball over much after the first quarter, and we did cause them to turn the ball over I think it was 20 times. The defense really got on them after the half. We also dominated the boards pretty well even with so many bigs out.
Generally it was a well played game by us. There were a few head scratcher missed bunnies and overly ambitious passes that led to turnovers, but nothing egregious. Jones had a very good game. She even had to guard their bigs inside some and did it well. Iriafen had a nice game too. Seems like she often has a shaky start and then settles in, not unusual for a frosh. Both Hulls were beasts on defense. Wilson did a good job and her threes really got the team going and gave them separation at a key time in the game. Nice to see her take those and make them. Jump played well. I don't think anyone played poorly. Liked seeing Van Gytenbeek get some time and hit a three.
I hope we have a full team for the Oregon schools next weekend. The games now and for the next two weeks may not be indicative of much if many games are off and many others played with one or both teams missing players.
