It's definitely very interesting the situation that has developed surrounding this reworking of the schedules. I respect Dawn for prioritizing an SEC title over the matchup with UConn. Word on the street is that this was the only date that Ole Miss was able to come down to Columbia to make up the game against South Carolina. My understanding is that the conference title will go to the team with the best winning percentage in the regular season. This means that even if South Carolina were to beat Tennessee this year, they could lose the title based on winning percentage if they play and win less games even if each team has the same number of losses.
With that being said, the reports I've seen thus far have been fairly clear in the fact that this cancellation request came from Dawn Staley and the South Carolina program. That is to say, UConn is NOT dodging South Carolina. They are now travelling to face a tough DePaul team on Wednesday, 1/26. It's also worth pointing out that South Carolina and UConn have already played this season in the Bahamas when UConn was healthy -- so it's not like they've not played at all this season.
With that being said, it's nice to see that our win over Tennessee (admittedly they were without Rae Burrell) is holding up at the moment. There were definitely some shockers today as Florida continues to confound everyone by standing at 5-2 in the SEC after a win over Kim Mulkey's Louisiana State.
It's been good to see the Pac-12 having more games this weekend than some other weekends in recent memory. Arizona State surprising Colorado was a mildly unexpected event, but nothing else truly out of the ordinary thus far.
