Played through pain that most people cannot begin to appreciate, and helped get flawed teams to the Super Bowl + the penultimate game. twice in three years. This year, even with a gimpy shoulder and a shredded throwing hand, he was minutes away from another SB. Imagine this season without this guy. Worse, imagine next season w/o him.
Those “flawed teams” generally had a top flight defense, an excellent running game and one of the best offensive minds in football at the helm. He has intangibles. No question. He’s also, at best, a mid level QB. Which everyone knows. So, the Niners roll the dice. Lance may be able to raise the level considerably. Or not. But if you watched the playoffs can you truly say JG is in the realm of any of the QBs that were in the final 8? Well, Tannehill I’ll give you. But you saw what they did. And you saw what beat them. A brilliant young QB that can make plays. Tell me ONE time you saw JG get out of the pocket and make a play. Heck, most of the time when that happened they were lucky he didn’t throw a pick six.
The Niners did very little offensively in 3 playoff games. And a good part of that was the limitations at QB.
Tell me the last time the Yorkie Niners had a QB take them to a Super Bowl and then an NFC championship game in two out of three seasons? And draw the accolades of the entire roster. To be sure, JG is not Mahomes, Burrow, Herbert, Murray, et. al, ad nauseam. So what? He can't help much when his coach channels Stanford's HC/OC at the Turning Point Of The Game. Can't wait to see how long it takes the Twit-verse to disavow Trey "The Chosen One" Lance next year. Or Sportstalk Radio starts screaming for the head(s) of Lynch/Shanahan. And I love when the City of Santa Clara finds another in a continuing series of thorns to stick up the Jedder's nether regions, BTW. That will continue in perpetuity. End of rant.
Life is too short to waste on crap football.
