As teejers noted, Stanford's margin of victory has not been impressive; our biggest margin was 14 points over both lowly SJSU and North Carolina A&T. 8 of our 12 wins have been single-digit or OT. On the other hand, some of our losses have been flat-out nightmarish: by 16 to Santa Clara (whom Cal defeated outright); 38 to Baylor; 28 to Arizona; 23 to a depleted UCLA team. The rankings that don't take into account margin of victory love Stanford. We're #28 in RPI! But, unfortunately for us, the committee uses NET instead.
Beat Cal!
I don't like using the transitive property, especially in MBB.
Cal may have beaten Santa Clara, but we have beaten USC twice (Cal lost to them twice) and Wazzu (Cal lost to them).
We beat Oregon, who beat (a full-strength!) UCLA a few weeks ago.
You can find such examples for almost any school. Same generally goes for football too (actually, us beating Oregon is a great example there as well).
