Different story if they had success running, But they didn’t. Not a good situation. JG was 3-9 for about 30 yards. Similar numbers in SB 4th. Plus he missed a gimme TD. Check his playoff numbers. Dismal. Yeah, they win NFC in ‘19. He threw 8 passes in Title game. Channeling Bob Griese.
When you don’t have a QB that can make a play. 4th and 2 becomes problematic. At best….
No doubt it was a problematic situation, and I'm sure many will disagree, but even if there's only a 25% chance of success it's correct to go for it. And I think the chance of success is better than that, assuming the 49ers had one great play prepared that they were saving for a 2-point conversion or for this situation. If they make it the upside is significant. As it was they took the delay of game and then punted for 35 yards, so a net gain of 30 yards of field position against a team that moves the ball in chunks.
To me it’s a 50-50 call. But the key is game type and flow. If it’s an up and down offensive game go. But this was not that. So punting, to me in that situation made sense. As for the lousy punt. Niners drafted wrong guy. Should have got Bailey.

However who on the Giants now would be an Ideal DH ?
Or is that a necessary trade or free agent signing ?
Maybe Ruf.
