This ritualistic "most importantly, we BEAT CAL!!!!!" bores me at this juncture in human evolution. Who gives a hoot if we beat a team considerably more mediocre than ours? IMO, it's much more noteworthy that we racked up a paltry 57 points against a team as bad as that opponent, not the sheer fact that we "BEAT CAL!!!!!" Having worked at Stanford for decades and now working in the U.C. system, I can personally attest that there are wonderful faculty, staff, and students (as well as some bozos) at both distinguished institutions.
